Who We Are

Our Mission

Women of Colors promotes diversity, equity, and inclusiveness for the  empowerment of families by providing services to strengthen communities  and enhance collaborative relations in the Great Lakes Bay Region and  beyond.

About Women of Colors

History

After a tragic car accident in which she lost a family member and fractured her pelvis, Evelyn McGovern had to overcome challenges and start anew.

She learned to walk again—and she joined a group of women determined to make a difference in their community, a group that became  Women of Colors. Now Evelyn McGovern serves as the President of Women of  Colors. Reflecting on these experiences, Evelyn affirms, “If people get involved and find a purpose, then it makes life better and happier.  They are waiting for the perfect time, but there never is a perfect time. You have to jump in and do it.”

“Jump in and do it” could be the motto for Women of Colors, for that’s what they have done since their beginning in 1993. Since then, Women of Colors has served and strengthened the Saginaw community by providing warm coats to children in the winter, offering educational programs that teach students computer programming and engineering, hosting engaging forums that address the community’s challenges, by awarding scholarships to deserving students, and by providing health advocates and substance use  prevention programs for community members.

We invite you to become a part of this story by joining our efforts to contribute to Saginaw and its surrounding communities.
