Community Service

Warm a Child for Winter

Warm A Child For Winter provides coats, hats, scarves, gloves, books, and more to children in the Great Lakes Bay Region. Over 6,500 children have received donations since November of 2014. Our goal for 2025 is to distribute outerwear to 800 children in need. To stretch every dollar, we shop for coats year-round, always on the lookout for the best deals to maximize our impact. If you'd like to support our mission, please donate here: https://womenofcolors.networkforgood.com/events/90032-warm-a-child-for-winter-2025

The Mother You Know

“The Mother You Know” is an essay contest sponsored by Women of  Colors in collaboration with Evelyn McGovern. We invite members of the  community to submit brief essays describing “The Mother You  Know”—whether that be your biological mother, adoptive mother, church  mother, school mother, neighborhood mother, work mother, or some other  type of mother—and the effect she has had on your life. Prizes will be  awarded for the top entries in eight categories. For submission  requirements and information about the contest deadline, please contact  President Evelyn McGovern at ewmtoday@aol.com.
